November 12 – Review by Officer Nice – FATES WARNING – LONG DAY GOOD NIGHT (Metal Blade Records)

Although 2020 was probably the shittiest year in my life I need to say, musical wise, these last 11 months were top. We received tons of awesome new releases and especially in our beloved genre, US Metal, we were spoiled. We had Byfist, Hittman, Vicious Rumors, Niviane, Psychotic Waltz, EchoSoul and many other releases that will make it difficult to make our year list. It shows and proves US Metal is still alive and we can only hope COVID 19 goes back where it belongs so we can see all those bands on the stages again.

An album I was in particular looking forward to was the new Fates Warning. I can mention that this formation belongs to my most favorite bands ever and I doubt if the band ever disappointed me. Okay, not every album was top but they were never bad either. Looking back to the career of these lads we can easily mention 5 classic albums, even more probably. I’m in particular a big fan of Ray Alder although many old school guys prefer John Arch. It doesn’t matter anyway, both singers are magnificent but during the time I was more and more under the spell of the specific gloomy timbre in Alder’s voice, I guess you know what I mean… His beautiful clear voice contains something sad, I just love it! He’s just awesome and age doesn’t seem to have any bad influences on his superb voice. READ MORE…
