October 05 – Review by Stefan – HIGH SPIRITS – HARD TO STOP (High Roller Records / Sure Shot Worx)

Until the moment I received the fourth album of High Spirits from Chicago, Illinois this name was totally unknown to me. I have a passion for bands that I don’t even know about, it still appeals to me to learn bands, and to proclaim their word. High Spirits has a peculiar story, a story that has been assigned to instrumentalist and singer Chris Black (Professor Black, Aktor, Dawnbringer, Pharaoh, Superchrist) who has been taking care of everything himself since 2009. Indeed, we are dealing here with a one-man formation, one that seems to sound very good to me.

What I hear on “Hard To Stop” is valuable, especially when you know that everything, as usual, was recorded by Chris himself, mixed to full power by mastermind Dan Swanö at the famous Unisound Studio. What I hear are nine songs that take a time span of almost 35 minutes, rather short playing time, but it is enjoying from the very beginning until the final chord.
