October 30 – Review by Stefan – NIVIANE – THE RUTHLESS DIVINE (Pure Steel Records / Soulfood)

With great admiration and appreciation for US Power Metal I present to you the second album of Niviane, a six-man formation from Sacramento, California. Niviane started in 2014, they made their debut with the fantastic album “The Druid King” (Pitch Black Records). Their musical approach appeals to me enormously, as well as being a huge fan of singer Norman Skinner, a unique frontman who we undoubtedly also know from Hellscream, Imagika, Skinner… He was also active within the ranks of Dire Peril, Machine Called Man, The Consequence Of Chaos and others.

“The Druid King” was a successful album, yet I have to admit in all honesty that their latest achievement does even better. If you ask my opinion Norman is one of the most unique singers we have known in the last decades. His warm, extremely variable and intense voice leads me to say that he’s really one of a kind type of frontman. To give a little more clarity, he comes to me as a cross between the good old Matt Barlow (ex-Iced Earth) and fallen hero Michael Grant (ex-Onward-Crescent Shield-Cypher Seer-New Eden and many others). Nothing but praise for the rest of Niviane as well, this sextet fits together perfectly, which immediately becomes clear when you make yourself aware of how generously the new songs were written.
